Practicing Gratitude

GRATITUDE IS UNDER-RATED.

Why are there so many unhappy marriages? This is a question that every self-help book asks. Why is there such a high level of crime, violence, and hatred? Why is there so much stress, anxiety, and illness in the world? Why is there such a high rate of child abuse? Why are there so many individuals who are miserable, in pain, have low self-esteem, and feel lonely empty?

People addicted to drink, drugs, food, cigarettes, job, TV, money, power, relationships, religion, approbation, caretaking, sex, affection, and romance abound in our culture. Why? Why do we feel so empty inside that we seek out new ways to fill ourselves from the outside?

What exactly do we mean when we say "thank you"? The majority of us are familiar with the notion. When I express gratitude, I realize that I have received a gift, understand its value, and respect the donor's wishes. Material or intangible benefits, gifts, or personal gain may be provided.
